We just visited Dominica in Jan 2020 and we must say we are sorely disappointed. This book is a love letter to Dominica when the reality is very different in the island.The book does not mention that the island has virtually no touristic infrastructure:- The whale watching tours he describes only run on Sundays, so clearly you are SOL if you want to watch whales in the middle of the week.- If you want to do an activity, you have to program it months in advance or there will be no availability - the people offering tours do that only as a part time job and are not available 24/7.I don't have time to write all the misleading issues associated with this book. However, believe me, it is not worth buying. Unless you plan to stay in your room all day long, I would also venture to say that the island is not worth visiting, but if you do, make sure you pre-program all your activities ahead of time.The only saving grace is the canyoneering tour with Extreme Dominica. That tour was indeed amazing. absolutely thorough and easy to use guide- extremely well organized, particularly when it comes to hikes in different regions, and lots of useful maps (was able to get away with just using what was provided in the book and didn't have to hunt down an actual trail map when i got there)- absolutely indispensable resource for my trip to dominica. thank you!!
